World Archery Championship : Indian Compound Women & Compound Mixed Teams reach Gold medal match

Indian Compound Women Trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Muskar Kirar and Priya Gurjar defeated one of the Strongest contenders - USA team of Linda Ochoa-Anderson, Paige Pearce & Makenna Proctor in the Semi Final (226 vs 225) and reached to the final at the USA World
Archery Championship.

Later, Compound duo – Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Abhishek Verma created history by edging out the Korean Mixed team of Yunhee Kim & Jong Ho Kim and cleared their path for the first ever appearance in the finals at World Championship in Indian history. Both the Indian compound teams will face Colombian teams for the Gold Medal matches on 24th September. Spotting in the finals means that India is guaranteed to win two compound medals at the World Championship. The matches for the individual compound and individual recurve events are yet to be held.

It is a unique distinction for Jyothi Surekha Vennam that she was one of the members of all Indian compound teams which took medals in the World Archery Championships till date which include Team Silver Medal at Mexico-World Championship-2017, Team Bronze Medal
at Netherland-World Championship-2019 and a part of two medals winning current Compound Women teams (Team and Mixed Team) at USA-World Championship -2021. Jyothi is the only Indian Female Archer to have won an individual Bronze medal at the
Netherlands-World Championship.

The twosome of Jyothi Surekha and Abhishek Verma has become India's most successful pair of Indian Archery by winning 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 5 Bronze medals in International Archery Competitions while adding one more medals is yet to add on their hats. While praising the Archers and Coaches wholeheartedly, President AAI, Shri Arjun Munda said that reaching Gold medal matches in the top competition of the world is itself an excellent achievement and I am sure that our Archers will not only win medals and glory for the country in two events but will also bring laurels in rest of the events too.

Shri Arjun Munda thanked NTPC for their continued support as a sponsor, without which such a huge success would have been difficult to achieve. He further said that in collaboration with NTPC, the National Ranking Archery Tournaments is going to start soon which were not being held due to Pandemic. NTPC Senior National Archery Championship is scheduled to be held at Jamshedpur from October 1 to 10 while NTPC Sub-Junior National Archery Championship will be held in Amravati in November. Selection of team for Asian Championship-Dhaka will be held immediately after the Senior National at Jamshedpur.
