Indian Men archers get Tokyo 2020 Olympic Birth

Sh. Arjuna Munda, President of Archery Association of India congratulated the Indian Men Archery trio – Tarundeep Rai (Score 676- Rank 21st), Pravin Jadhav (673 – 31st) and Atanu Das (666 – 50th) on being qualified for the Tokyo- Olympic Games in the World Archery Championship at ‘s-Hertogenbosch (Netherlands) 12.06.2019.

Indian Men team has now become eligible to compete in individual as well as team Recurve events in Tokyo 2020-Olympics by virtue of their 1/8 round match-winning performance against Canadian team (5-3) in the 2019- World Championship. Canadian team rank was 6th in the qualification in compare to India of 11th. Besides India, other qualified countries are Korea, Great Britain, China, Australia, Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, and the Netherlands.

Men team defeated Norway Team (22nd ranked) by (5-1) in their first match. They will meet the Chinese team in the quarter Final tomorrow. Indian team rank was 11th with a score of 2015 in qualification round held a day before yesterday.

President said that Recurve Women team (1975 – 6th) – Laishram Bombayla Devi (664 – 15th), Deepika Kumari (660 – 22nd) and Komalika Bari (651 – 40th) missed out Tokyo 2020 – Olympics. They lost against Belarus (2-6) in 1/8 match but India has still chances to get quota places in team/Individual through Final World Team Qualification Tournament, Continental Championship. Deepika has still a chance to qualify as an individual in the instant event too.

President conveyed his good wishes to the Indian team for the rest part of the event.
